The eleven cases have been reported from Region Jämtland Härjedalen, Skåne, Stockholm, Västerbotten, Gotland and Värmland, the Public Health Agency of Sweden announced on its website. They are suspected of having been infected in connection with the Urkult festival in Ångermanland, which was held from July 30 to August 1.
"The majority are children under 18 years of age. Most of the cases have not been vaccinated against measles," the authority writes.
Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious illness. However, the disease is uncommon in Sweden, as it is included in the childhood vaccination programme.
