McLaren Drivers Triumph in Rainy Silverstone F1 Race

Neither heavy rain, sloppy tire changes or time penalties could stop the McLaren drivers from taking a double victory at the F1 race at the British Silverstone. Briton Lando Norris won on his home track ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri, Australia, who led the race when he received a ten-second time penalty.

It was set for Max Verstappen ahead of the F1 race at the classic Silverstone. He started in pole position and had the opportunity to catch up with the leading McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in the summary.

But Verstappen's victory ambitions were crushed by a heavy rain that rolled in over Silverstone on the sixth lap. He had no chance when Oscar Piastri's car was faster in the heavy rain and took the lead on the eighth lap.

Penalized for panic braking

On the 21st lap, the wet race got its climax when Oscar Piastri made a cross-braking behind a safety car to warm up the tires. The consequence was that Verstappen had to panic brake to avoid a collision. In the next turn, Verstappen also got a skid on his car and lost several positions.

Oscar Piastri received a ten-second time penalty for his actions, which made him noticeably upset and he had to struggle to control himself after the race:

I will not say too much to avoid getting into trouble, he said gritted in Viaplay's broadcast.

"Enjoy the moment"

The time penalty meant that teammate and home driver, Lando Norris, could take over the lead and win ahead of Piastri.

Norris described the final laps in front of the home crowd as a pure pleasure.

I just wanted to see the audience and enjoy the moment. This may not happen again, he said.

Third came the German Nico Hulkenberg and thus took his first podium after a strong drive.

In the summary, Oscar Piastri still leads with 234 points ahead of Lando Norris with 226 points.

Max Verstappen, who came fifth, is third overall with his 165 points.
