Kylian Mbappe was barely visible during the first half of the match between France and Senegal.
But the 27-year-old stepped up to break the deadlock. Mbappe intercepted a deep ball from Michael Olise and rolled in to make it 1-0.
Then he celebrated the goal with a somewhat odd gesture, an air flute. Before the championship, Mbappe was on British presenter James Corden's World Cup program on the Fox television channel. There, it emerged that Mbappe had played the flute during his school days. As a tribute to his short musical career, he was supposed to make the flute gesture after his first World Cup goal.
The match ended 3–1 to France, with Mbappe also scoring another goal.
