Kylian Mbappé will miss France's World Championship qualifying match away to Iceland on Monday due to an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old attacking star scored a dream goal to make it 1–0 in Friday's 3–0 win over Azerbaijan in Paris, but was substituted out in the 83rd minute.

According to the news agency AFP, the Real Madrid player had feelings of discomfort in his right ankle already before the match. After having received two new blows, it is clear that the captain of "Les Bleus" will not travel with the team to Reykjavik where France can secure a ticket to the World Championship finals in the USA, Mexico, and Canada next year.

France has a maximum of nine points in qualifying group D after three out of six matches. Ukraine is second with four points, Iceland third with three, and Azerbaijan last with one point.

Ukraine will host Azerbaijan in parallel in Krakow, Poland, on Monday evening.
