Ten injured people have been taken to hospital, including a child, the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, wrote on Telegram.
A gunman opened fire on people in the street in Kyiv on Saturday. The gunman was killed by police during his arrest, police said on Telegram. Four hostages were rescued, according to the president.
He reportedly made his way to a supermarket where he took people hostage and shot at police after negotiators tried to make contact with him.
"We expect a swift investigation," Zelenskyy wrote.
