Joel Ángel Bravo Martínez was attacked as he left his home, reports the newspaper La Jornada, citing security sources.
A criminal investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have yet been made, according to the state prosecutor's office, which confirmed the murder.
Drug cartels are active in the area and security forces have increased their presence after the attack, authorities said.
