At least three people have been killed and dozens injured in Russian attacks on the Kiev region in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. Power has been cut off to more than 600,000 households.

"The Russians fired around 36 missiles and almost 600 drones," Zelensky writes on X.

The drone and missile attacks targeted both the capital Kiev itself and the surrounding region. The targets of the attacks were energy infrastructure and civilian buildings, according to Zelensky. Fires broke out in several residential buildings.

Ukraine's energy ministry said more than 500,000 people in Kiev and more than 100,000 in the region lost power in the attacks, AFP reports. Nearly 8,000 in the Kharkiv region were also affected.

The attack took place on Saturday night.

Zelensky reiterates Ukraine's great need for air defense systems and that the country's allies continue to pressure Russia.

"It's time for Europe to make a decision about the frozen assets if Moscow doesn't stop its drone and missile attacks," he writes on X.

At the same time, an attack with sea drones was reportedly carried out against an oil terminal at the port city of Novorossiysk in southwestern Russia on the Black Sea, AFP writes.

One of the facility's three anchorages has been damaged and operations have been halted, the owner, the Russian-Kazakh Caspian Pipeline Consortium, said. No one was injured, according to the company.

Ukraine regularly attacks Russian oil facilities, both on the Black Sea and deeper into the country.
