An Israeli attack on a school building west of Gaza City, where displaced Palestinians are said to have taken shelter, has killed seven people according to the civil defense in Gaza.
Women and children are among the dead, according to the civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal.
The Israeli military says it is investigating the incident.
In another attack, on the city hall in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, the city's mayor was killed, along with nine other people.
Israel claims to have attacked a "humanitarian area" in the city and accuses the mayor of being part of Hamas' armed branch.
