Ghislaine Maxwell, accomplice of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is applying to have her conviction overturned.

In the application, Maxwell claims that "new evidence" shows that she "did not receive a fair trial by independent jurors who came to court with an open mind."

According to AFP, applications of this kind are often a last-ditch attempt by convicted criminals to have their convictions overturned and are likely to be rejected.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for his involvement in Epstein's sex crimes.

In early October, the US Supreme Court rejected Maxwell's request for a stay.
