The multiple world champion ran into problems right away in the classic city race. Already on the first lap, Max Verstappen was forced to retire after discovering a fault in the car. According to several media outlets, the fault was in the engine.
"Hey guys, what the hell?" Verstappen shouted on the radio to the team.
