The reigning Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen and partner Kelly Piquet have become parents to a daughter, the couple announces on Instagram.
The birth, which Verstappen attended, meant that he was not present at Thursday's press conference ahead of the weekend's competition in Miami.
And to make it to Friday's practice, which is the only one as Miami GP is a sprint weekend, the 27-year-old took his private plane from Monaco to the USA.
The couple announced in early December that they were expecting their first child together. Kelly Piquet is the daughter of Nelson Piquet, who won three World Championship titles in Formula 1 during his career.
Miami's GP begins with a sprint on Saturday, followed by qualifying on the same day and concludes with the race on Sunday.
