It was barely five minutes into the second period when Ekholm scored with a slap shot, extending Edmonton's lead to 2–0. Teammate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set him up, and Ekholm showed that he was once again a force to be reckoned with after missing two games with an upper-body injury.

The third period began with Edmonton applying plenty of pressure – and it paid off. After one minute and 16 seconds, the team had scored twice, just 21 seconds apart. Finland's Kasperi Kapanen and Canada's Alex Formenton scored, with Kapanen getting the upper hand.

Edmonton goalie Tristan Jarry kept a clean sheet, saving 24 shots.
