Veteran back Mattias Ekholm, 35, has extended his contract with Edmonton and is clear for three new seasons in the club.

The message comes on the same day as the two latest years' Stanley Cup finalist begins the regular season.

Ekholm has written a three-year contract worth four million dollars, equivalent to just under 38 million kronor per season.

The Swedish defender is thus going down in salary from next season. His current two-year contract gives him 59 million dollars per season.

Ekholm came from Nashville in the 2022–23 season and made 33 points (9 goals + 24 assists) in 65 matches last season, averaging 22 minutes in playing time.

Mattias Ekholm is a candidate for Tre Kronor's Olympic Games team, played in the Four Nations in February and has won a World Championship gold.
