On Wednesday, Norwegian police carried out house searches at several addresses and arrested seven people, one of whom was remanded in custody. Those arrested are suspected of corruption and fraud linked to betting on football matches.
According to information provided to VG, some of those arrested are football players and people with connections to Norway's top league.
NRK reports that several of those arrested are players in Norway's top league, Eliteserien.
14 years ago, Norwegian football was rocked by a match-fixing scandal that focused on the clubs Follo and Asker. Seven people were charged, including several players. Three were sentenced to prison and four were acquitted. Two of the convicted were Swedes.
