The 48-year-old suspect has been identified by police and the media through his photo and first name.

Police have reportedly received a letter in which the man claims responsibility for several attempts to sabotage the power supply in Germany. He is said to have justified his actions with opposition to fossil fuels, reports Bild . The sabotage attempts in various parts of Germany have been linked to large coal-fired power plants.

On Friday, police raided the man's home in a small town in the region and found explosives. He is believed to be somewhere in the Hambacher Forest, an endangered forest and long a battleground for climate activists and the coal industry.
