Former Manchester United player Mason Greenwood is clear for French Marseille, confirms both clubs.
"We wish Mason good luck in his future career", writes Manchester United on their website.
Mason Greenwood was fostered in the Premier League club's academy and scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the first team.
Last season, the 22-year-old was loaned out to La Liga club Getafe, where he was voted player of the season by the fans.
The transfer comes after great controversies surrounding Greenwood. In 2022, the Englishman was accused of rape and assault of his girlfriend. At the same time, video clips, audio recordings, and conversations were spread where Greenwood was threatening and violent towards his girlfriend.
The player was suspended by United, who started an internal investigation. Greenwood has not made an appearance for the Manchester club since then.
The police investigation was later dropped after the girlfriend withdrew her accusations.
Recently, when Greenwood was rumored to Marseille, fans of the club have protested against the recruitment – including through the use of the hashtag "#GreenwoodNotWelcome", "#GreenwoodNotWelcome", on social media.
Even Marseille's mayor Benoît Payan has urged the club not to recruit Greenwood after the rumor of the transfer came.
