The novel "The Rise and Fall of Mrs. Örnsparre" is about a woman who is abandoned after 30 years of marriage. She finds a bricked-up door that turns out to lead to the 16th century - and everything she does in 16th-century Stockholm has consequences in the present.
"The more history I learn about, the more I realize that I am a link in a chain. It raises thoughts about family, where you come from and what you leave behind. Being part of a larger whole. I am becoming more and more interested in human destiny as well, and in this novel I have been able to combine both," Haag says in a press release.
Martina Haag made her novel debut with "Wonderful and Beloved by All" in 2005. "The Rise and Fall of Mrs. Örnsparre" will be published on September 21.
