Martina Haag makes her directorial debut with the film based on her own novel of the same name from 2015.
Alexandra Rapaport plays the lead role as her divorce gets her to think back on her parents' separation. Ella Hammarsten Liedberg, Jessica Liedberg, Gustaf Hammarsten, and Shanti Roney also make appearances in the film.
Viaplay's crisis
The project was presented as early as 2021, but it has taken a long time for "There's something that doesn't add up" to reach the cinema screen. The idea was that the film would go up on Viaplay in 2023. But the premiere has been delayed while the streaming service has been hit by an economic crisis.
In the meantime, the film has been ready and accessible – but just not in Sweden. Martina Haag tells us that she has heard from friends who have seen it on long flights. Moreover, it was awarded the finest prize, for best film, at the venerable TV festival in Monte Carlo last year.
You can see on my Instagram that I'm so shocked! Luckily, I had written a thank-you speech. Because I don't even being on stage.
More films
Now "There's something that doesn't add up" has been bought in by SF and gets a cinema premiere on August 29. It will also be shown in several Nordic countries, among others.
The directorial assignment has given Martina Haag a taste for blood.
The thing is that I've kind of held back from directing. I thought it was a profession that required education, just like doctors. That you can't just say "I feel like becoming a doctor". I've had too much respect for it. But it turns out that I'm actually really good at directing.
I'll definitely be directing more films.
