Martha Stewart apologizes for Halloween costume portraying a homeless person

American lifestyle icon and multimillionaire Martha Stewart dressed up as a homeless person for Halloween. After facing strong criticism, she apologized.

A photo of Stewart with a dirty face and dressed in rags was posted on Instagram in connection with an advertisement for an interior design company’s online candle sale, according to TMZ.

When she was met with critical comments, she initially said her purpose was to raise awareness of homelessness. A few hours later, she posted an apology on Instagram, reports The Guardian.

"It's hard to admit when you've really messed up," she wrote in a post on Sunday night. "To wear a costume like I did was insensitive and not fun. I apologize profusely."

Instagram has restricted the post, which cannot be viewed in Sweden.
