Sandén has been on the jury for the award since 2018. He writes books for children and young people and is also a songwriter.
He succeeds Boel Westin, who has been chair of the jury since 2014. In a press release, Mårten Sandén describes the assignment as "a great honour" and the prize as "unique".
The Alma Prize is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature, with a prize sum of five million kronor.
