The 15th-ranked Kostyuk won the match 2–1 in sets (6–3, 2–6, 6–2) against Svitolina, seventh in the world.
Afterwards, Kostyuk was touched, but gathered herself to dedicate the victory to her homeland.
"We had a difficult night again in Ukraine, especially in Kyiv. So many people dead," laments the 23-year-old, who also pays tribute to her opponent and compatriot Svitolina.
She has done a lot for Ukrainian tennis; she is an incredible fighter, says Kostyuk.
This is the first time Kostyuk has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament. In the semis, she will face Russian Mirra Andreeva.
