Three days before the alpine World Championship premiere, the Italian Marta Bassino broke her leg.

The 29-year-old Marta Bassino crashed during Wednesday's training in Val Senales. At the hospital, it was found that the Italian had broken her left shinbone, writes the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on its website

On Thursday, she will be operated on.

The fracture occurred just three days before the World Cup premiere in Sölden on Saturday and with three and a half months to the Olympic Games on her home ground, in Milan and Cortina. It remains to be seen if Bassino can make it back in time for the Olympic Games, which opens on February 6.

Bassino won the giant slalom cup in 2021 and she has seven World Cup victories in both giant slalom and downhill. Add to that two World Championship golds.
