Married at First Sight UK axed after rape allegations against contestants

The British reality series "Married at First Sight UK" is being canceled following several rape allegations, the BBC reports. The Swedish version is called "Gift vid första ögonkastet."

Two women said they were raped by the men they were matched with on the show. One of them claims she was threatened with an acid attack. A third woman accused her TV husband of sexual harassment. The men deny the allegations.

A BBC investigation for Panorama found that the production company’s notes recorded that the women had reported some of the incidents to the show’s support team during filming.

Channel 4, which aired ten seasons of Married at First Sight UK, subsequently commissioned an external review and removed all episodes from its platforms. The channel has now decided not to resume the series.

A male contestant was arrested in June on suspicion of rape.
