"The Court of Appeal has decided to refer Marius Borg Høiby's appeal to the Court of Appeal hearing," the Borgarting Court of Appeal announced in a press release.
This means that Høiby, the son of Norway's Queen Mette-Marit, will have his case retried. It is still unclear when this will happen.
It was expected, his defence lawyer Petar Sekulic tells NRK.
The 29-year-old was sentenced in June to four years in prison for rape and assault, among other charges, and has since been held in custody in ankle shackles while awaiting the verdict. He was, however, allowed to attend King Harald's funeral with his family on Wednesday.
Høiby denies rape and assault in a close relationship.
