Marius Borg Høiby was sentenced in June to four years in prison for, among other things, rape, and is being held under electronic surveillance in a residence on the Crown Prince couple's property, Skaugum.
He now wants to be released from this restriction while awaiting a new trial, a request that the police and prosecutors oppose as they believe there is a continued risk that Høiby will commit new crimes. The matter will be decided on Monday.
The "bonus prince" Marius is Crown Princess Mette-Marit's eldest son from a previous relationship and is not a member of the royal family. He has been in custody since February 2.
Borg Høiby was charged with around 40 offences and has appealed the verdict, which has not yet become final. The prosecution has also appealed the verdict.
