Le Pen said she has full confidence in her second-in-command, Jordan Bardella, despite accusations that he made condescending remarks about Jews more than a decade ago.
Le Pen and Bardella made a joint statement on Tuesday, with Bardella claiming that the accusations were part of an attempt to destroy the National Rally party.
"We are seeing the beginning of a total war, an attempt to destabilize our presidential campaign," said Bardella, who is officially the National Rally's party leader, with Le Pen at his side.
Marine Le Pen, for her part, condemned the media company Mediapart, which had provided information about Bardella's anti-Semitic statements.
