It was in 2019 that the song once again reached the top spot on the charts, after an intensive campaign from the singer herself on social media. Since then, it has been self-penned at the top in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Globally, however, "All I Want for Christmas" was overtaken by Wham's "Last Christmas" a few days ago on the worldwide chart, the Global 200.
Mariah Carey now also becomes the first person to have topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a total of 100 weeks - but with different songs ever since 1990's "Vision of Love".
"All I want for Christmas" certainly acts as a driving force, as the singer last had a newly released number one on Billboard in 2008 - "Touch my body".
