The Swedish Trotting Sports Licensing Committee made the decision after a nine-month investigation.
It was in December 2025 that a video from a private individual spread on social media, where whip cracking can be heard against a trotting horse during a training round that the two were conducting.
Törnqvist is suspended for 18 months and fined 300,000 kronor for inappropriate treatment of a horse and violations of animal welfare regulations.
"The case involving Maria Törnqvist involves more events and a broader responsibility as a trainer, which is reflected in the penalty," the committee writes.
Dwight Pieters is suspended for three months and fined 25,000 kronor.
The duo can appeal the decisions to the Swedish Trotting Sports Supreme Court.
