Diego Gavilan, one of those who started the soup kitchen, is convinced that Maradona, who passed away in 2020, would have appreciated his childhood home being transformed into a soup kitchen.

He would have said the need was so great that we had to help, Gavilan says.

Diego Maradona's childhood home is in the poor Buenos Aires suburb of Fiorito, where he grew up in difficult circumstances.

Diego said that his mother (Dalma "Tota" Franco) pretended to have a stomach ache so he could eat instead. We want many "Totas" and "Diegos" to leave here full, priest Leonardo Torres says.

The Argentine football star passed away in 2020 at the age of 60.
