The announcement comes after Venezuela's interim leader Delcy Rodríguez, who took over after the US overthrew President Nicolás Maduro in January, pushed through a law on amnesty for political prisoners.
Machado, who has been labeled a fugitive from justice and accused of calling for military intervention against Venezuela, left the country in December 2025 to accept the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo and has since been living in exile, mainly in the United States.
