Dozens of Indians are feared to have died in a bus accident outside Medina in Saudi Arabia on Monday night, according to Indian reports.

Indian media reports that up to 45 people have died, but Saudi authorities have not yet given any information. According to media reports, the bus collided with a tanker truck.

The Indian embassy in the country announces that a "tragic" bus accident has occurred and that those involved are Muslim pilgrims. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also commented on the incident:

"I pray for a speedy recovery for all those injured. Our embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah are assisting in every way possible," Modi wrote on social media.

Millions of Muslims make pilgrimages to the Saudi cities of Mecca and Medina every year. Around two million Indians also live and work in Saudi Arabia.
