There are no figures on how many pets are missing, local police chief Geir Oustorp said at a press conference on Saturday.
Many worried pet owners try to look for their four-legged friends themselves, but are often turned away from the area, writes Drammen Live24.
"I'm guessing every other house had a cat. Everyone has lost their cat. Not just us," says Marcus Heltne Damli, who is searching for his two cats Luna and Felix, to Dagbladet.
According to Oustorp, the authorities have placed cages in the area for animals that appear. Animal welfare has also been involved.
"We will arrange for people to eventually enter the area," he says.
