The incident occurred at a temple in Srikakulam district in the state of Andhra Pradesh where hundreds of people had gathered to fast and pray to the god Vishnu.
According to a preliminary investigation, a fence that was meant to keep the queue to the temple in check broke, which according to police may have led to the fatal incident.
