30-year-old Mario Barrios from the USA became too tough for the 46-year-old multiple World Champion Pacquiao.
Barrios won the match in Las Vegas after two of the three judges assessed the match as a draw, but the third had 115-113 in favor of Barrios on his scorecard.
Pacquiao, who was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame last month, had the chance to break his own record as the oldest boxer to win a World Championship title in welterweight. He set it as a 40-year-old in 2019. The match against Barrios was the first in four years for Pacquiao.
Manny Pacquiao's CV includes twelve World Championship titles in eight different weight classes, something that no one else has managed.
At the same gala, Sebastian Fundora also defended his WBC title in super welterweight when he defeated Tim Tszyu, who broke off the match after seven rounds.
