It has been ten years since the Swedish poet and publisher Gui Minhai was deprived of his freedom in Thailand and taken to China. On the anniversary, a manifestation is being held outside China's embassy in Stockholm.

”I hope now that our foreign minister comes home with Gui Minhai on the government plane”, says the organizer of the manifestation Kurdo Baksi in a press release.

In February 2020, Gui Minhai was sentenced to ten years in prison for "providing information to foreign power", without anyone having seen the verdict. According to several publishers, the reason why Gui Minhai is imprisoned is rather that he has been engaged in independent publishing activities in Hong Kong.

At the same time as the anniversary occurs, Sweden's foreign minister Maria Malmer Stenergard is in China. She has said that she will talk to the Chinese authorities about Gui Minhai's situation.

The manifestation for Gui Minhai's freedom is carried out on Friday outside China's embassy in Stockholm. Participating are several culture managers for Swedish daily newspapers, Gui Minhai's publisher, Reporters without borders, The Journalists' Union, The Publicist Club and Swedish PEN.
