First, Pep Guardiola turned down the role of national team coach for Italy. Then attention turned to Andrea Pirlo, but the former midfielder’s collaboration with a Russian betting company came to a halt. In protest at the decision to drop Pirlo, technical director Paolo Maldini resigned.
Now, however, both roles appear to be filled. Former coach Claudio Ranieri will replace Maldini and Mancini will become the new national coach, the Ansa news agency reports.
"I am negotiating with Roberto Mancini about him becoming the new national team coach," says Malagò, according to Gazzetta dello sport.
