Manchester United’s Nightmare Continues With 2-0 Defeat at Chelsea

The worst start to a season in 40 years got even worse. Manchester United lost 2-0 away to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Many probably expected Manchester United coach Michael Carrick to be sacked after last weekend's 0-3 loss to Bournemouth, but the club showed continued confidence in the former midfield star.

After Saturday's away match against Chelsea, another meeting may be in store for the club's management. After a solid first half - in which the away team's goal was ruled out for offside - Manchester United collapsed like a house of cards in the second half.

In the 50th minute, Morgan Rogers was allowed to run through a passive United defence and score the opening goal after Chelsea won the ball in midfield.

Just over an hour into the match, another blow came at Stamford Bridge in London. After a VAR review, Lisandro Martínez was judged to have put his arm in an opponent's face, and Chelsea were awarded a penalty. The Argentine received his second yellow card of the match for the offence and was sent off.

Cole Palmer scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-0, beating visiting goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Manchester United had already made their worst start to the league in 40 years, with just seven points, before the match in London. That remains the team's record after the defeat to Chelsea, who have 16 points.

United have won just two of their 13 games this season in the Premier League, the League Cup and the Champions League.
