Manchester United had a tough last year and finished in 15th place in the Premier League. This season has hardly started better. After two rounds, the team has taken one point – and now "The Red Devils" are eliminated from the league cup by Grimsby after penalties.

Coach Ruben Amorim put a relatively strong starting eleven on the pitch, including new acquisitions Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, seasoned with experienced players like Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot.

It did not help United, who were down 0-2 after just 30 minutes.

Harry Maguire did manage to equalize to 2-2 in the 89th minute of the match. But the joy was short-lived as they then lost on penalties.

After the match, the pitch was filled with jubilant supporters of the home team who wanted to celebrate with the players.

It's fantastic, unreal, I'm at a loss for words, says Grimsby's one of the goal scorers Tyrell Warren after the match to ITV and gets support from teammate Kieran Green:

It's incredible. I think it's going to be a match that will live on in the club's history for a long time. I know that many of the fans were looking forward to it, we were looking forward to it, so it's a match that will stay forever.

Amorim did not mince words when he criticized his own team after the match.

I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch, he says to the news agency AFP and adds that a real team can win "over any group of players".

The way we started the match without any intensity... We were completely lost.
