Manchester City has consistently denied wrongdoing and a source told AP that it plans to appeal.
"The Premier League process is still ongoing, with significant elements remaining to be finalised, and is subject to strict confidentiality," City said in a statement, adding that the club's position "remains unchanged."
The range of punishments includes everything from a reprimand and fine to a points deduction - and even relegation from the Premier League. In the event of a points deduction, the team can also lose titles.
During the period in which the financial crimes were allegedly committed, Manchester City won the Premier League three times, the FA Cup twice, the League Cup four times and the Community Shield once.
The crimes allegedly occurred between 2009 and 2018. In 2023, an independent investigation commissioned by the Premier League concluded that City had breached the league's regulations on 115 counts between 2009 and 2018. In September 2024, the club's hearing began.
