At the end of September, the Premier League announced that Manchester City had been found guilty of most of the 115 charges brought against the club for breaching the league's financial rules between 2009 and 2018.
A few days later, former City manager Pep Guardiola (2016–2026) commented on the announcement.
"I stand, have always stood and will always stand behind my club," the Spaniard wrote on Instagram.
When Manchester City hosted Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, Guardiola was in the stands.
He watched his former team get overrun in the first half.
In the 13th minute, Désiré Doué put PSG 1–0 up. Two minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé added a header, and just over half an hour into the match, Vitinha made it 3–0 with a shot past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Norwegian striker Erling Braut Haaland reduced the deficit in the second half with the 60th Champions League goal of his career, in as many matches.
Shortly afterwards, Maghnes Akliouche made it 4–1 for PSG. Haaland reduced the deficit again with 15 minutes left to play, but City didn't get any closer.
Manchester City has appealed the verdict, and it is unclear when a penalty will be imposed.
