On the final day of the transfer window, Manchester City signed midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for around 1.6 billion kronor, edging out the top spot for the most expensive signing in Premier League history - the same amount as when Swede Alexander Isak left Newcastle for Liverpool last year.
The Argentine was allowed to make his debut for the club - even though the plan was actually for him to start the match on the bench.
Shortly before kick-off against Coventry, 21-year-old Nico O'Reilly disappeared from the squad, opening the door for Fernandez to take his place in the starting eleven. New signing Iliman Ndiaye also got a chance from the start.
Haaland with a header record
Manchester City came close to going behind after just over 20 minutes, but Rayan Cherki hit the post.
But the opening goal came shortly afterwards when superstar Erling Braut Haaland headed in to make it 1-0 for the home team.
The goal also meant that Haaland wrote himself into the club's history books. With his 20th headed goal, he became the Manchester City player with the most headed goals in the Premier League, according to Viaplay.
Debut for the Swede
Coventry had their chances to find an equalizer, but Haaland's strike was the only goal of the match.
Manchester City are now on three straight wins after the first three rounds of the Premier League and are top of the table. For Coventry, the hunt for their first point of the season continues.
In London, Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson made his debut for his new club Fulham, where he recently moved from Frankfurt. Larsson came on with just over ten minutes left in the match but was unable to help his new team equalise, Crystal Palace won 3–2.
