The man was arrested just before midnight on Thursday night after a major police operation in the archipelago with naval police and helicopters.
He managed to stay hidden in nature for a day and a half, despite a large police force searching for him. He was found thanks to a helicopter with a thermal camera, prosecutor Emma Olsson tells TT.
The woman, who was also in her 50s, was found dead in a home in Värmdö municipality on Tuesday. She had been subjected to extensive violence, according to the prosecutor, who said it was domestic violence.
They had been in a romantic relationship for a few months, Olsson says, emphasizing that the relationship is now being investigated by police investigators.
Many of our interesting interrogations are close to this couple in some way.
The police are continuing to secure clues and conduct crime scene investigations.
We don't have as many answers as we would like, Olsson says.
The man was remanded in custody on probable cause with restrictions during the hearing held at Nacka District Court on Friday. The suspect participated via video link. Charges or remand must be filed no later than September 4.
The police are not looking for additional perpetrators.
