The man who was arrested on suspicion of killing a woman and a child in Hörby has been released. Suspicions are now being directed against the deceased woman, the Prosecution Service writes.

The man will be formally removed from the investigation, says senior prosecutor Josefin Sävlund.

"Currently, the circumstances of the case indicate that it is not two cases of murder but one and that the person suspected is the woman who is no longer alive," she says in a press release.

When the child did not come to school on Tuesday morning, the police were contacted. The child, who is under 15 years old, and a woman were found in the home.

The man was arrested the same day and later detained as a reasonable suspect, which is the lower level of suspicion.

The news of the deaths caused great emotion in Hörby. Hörby residents flocked to a memorial site outside the home with flowers and candles. The municipality's crisis support was activated and schools invested in extra preparedness and staffing to meet the children's concerns.

At the same time, intensive investigation work was underway by the police, which has now led to the man being cleared of suspicion.
