A man stabbed four of his own children to death with a knife, police said. Another child and four adults were also killed.
The incident occurred in and around the man's home. According to neighbors, it began after an argument the man had with his wife on the phone, after which he began stabbing his children. He then attacked neighbors who tried to intervene.
In addition to the nine fatalities, the man attacked another child and an adult, who were taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said in a statement.
Police who arrived at the scene were attacked by the man; officers shot him in one leg.
According to local media, who have been to the crime scene and spoken to the man's neighbors, the man has mental health problems.
