He is suspected on probable grounds of four counts of serious insider trading between 2024 and 2026.

He was arrested early Tuesday morning in a raid by the Economic Crimes Authority.

The suspicions have strengthened after the arrest, according to the prosecutor, who does not want to go into details.

Usually, when I make decisions about coercive measures, it is before I have had the opportunity to look into, for example, phones and computers, Hertz says.

The suspected crime consists of Mårder allegedly giving stock advice to another person, but without making any money from the deals himself. Hertz does not want to go into the amount.

What he is suspected of, and is being detained for, is that he advised and urged another person to trade shares in the company Raysearch Laboratories. That is briefly what it is about.

The investigation was initiated following reports from the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, which in turn received reports from the stock exchange's market surveillance department.

Denies crime

Another person was arrested during the raid on suspicion of serious insider trading, but was released after questioning. The prosecutor does not want to go into what their relationship is other than that Mårder has given the person advice.

Günther Mårder attends the hearing wearing green prison clothes. He is being held in custody with restrictions.

Günther Mårder is very disappointed with the district court's decision to remand him, but in the long term he looks ahead with confidence to the investigation and the vindication he is convinced it will bring, says his lawyer Joel Apitzsch.

He denies any wrongdoing in the strongest possible terms. He has absolutely not committed any insider trading and is convinced that this is also what will be shown in the investigation, he continues.

Several board assignments

Günther Mårder was appointed by the government as a board member of the Swedish Public Employment Service in 2023. He has previously been CEO of the interest organizations Aktiespararna and Företagarna. He is a partner and board member of, among others, the listed companies Spotlight Group and Raysearch.

Mårder is also a lecturer and author, known for his savings tips and his financially conservative lifestyle. In the media, he has become known as “Sweden’s stingiest person” and he was recently the face of an advertising campaign from the grocery chain Lidl.
