It was at 16.45 on Wednesday that the police were alerted to the Andersberg district after calls about gunfire from several residents. Upon arrival, a shot man was found who was declared dead at the scene.
At a press conference on Thursday, the police say the man is "known to the police since before", reports Gefle Dagblad.
What we can say is that this murder fits into the conflict environment that exists in Gävle. We have several conflicts ongoing in Gävle, says police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin to SVT Gävleborg.
Arrested during the evening
A large area with several residential buildings was cordoned off in the district, where police helicopters hovered and dog patrols were deployed. During the night, a technical investigation was conducted.
We have secured some traces at the scene that have been sent for analysis. We have also detained several people, says police spokesperson Tobias Ahlén Svalbro to TT on Thursday morning.
Two people, one in their 40s and one in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to the Prosecution Authority. They are reasonably suspected, which is the lower degree of suspicion.
It did not happen in connection with the murder, but they were arrested later in the evening, says Magnus Jansson Klarin to SVT.
Second murder in a short time
As recently as on Friday, a 28-year-old man, who according to local media has ties to gang crime, was shot to death in a stairwell in the Öster district. A man in his 30s and a 16-year-old boy are being held on suspicion of murder.
According to Gefle Dagblad, the police in Gävle have arrested several people in February who have traveled to the city from other parts of Sweden and are linked to serious crime preparations.
I cannot confirm a connection to the murder on Friday, but we will of course work on seeing if there is. It is close both in time and geographically, says Tobias Ahlén Svalbro to TT.
