A woman was killed in New York's subway on Sunday after a man set her on fire.
The incident occurred in the morning and the police believe that the woman may have been sleeping on a stationary train when the man set her clothes on fire.
A suspected man was arrested later on Sunday, after the police received tips from three school students who recognized the man from surveillance camera images that the police had released to the public.
New York's police chief Jessica Tisch describes the act as "one of the most depraved crimes one person can commit against another human being".
The police do not believe that the perpetrator knew the woman, who has not yet been identified.
