The man was seriously injured and taken to hospital after the shooting on Thursday morning. At 1 p.m., police announced that he had died from his injuries.

The man, who is between 25 and 30 years old, was found in or near a car, and pictures show bullet holes in the car window.

The man was shot in the morning when many residents in the area were on their way to work and school. A man who lives nearby tells Länstidningen:

They shot at the car at 7:25 a.m. I was getting my kids ready for school. I heard the shots and my wife saw it happen. You can see the car from here.

Another father had left home with his daughter to take the bus to school.

"I heard two shots. My daughter was scared," he tells the newspaper.

"Heard gunshots"

The police are investigating the incident as a murder.

We received calls from several people at 7:30 a.m. stating that they had heard gunshots and there was also information that one person had been shot, police spokesman Per Fahlström told TT.

Were there many people at the scene?

I can't answer exactly how many, but we are questioning people who have been in the vicinity.

Five deaths in two weeks

A large area was cordoned off after the shooting and the police have launched a major operation to search for one or more perpetrators. Cameras are being inventoried and, according to Fahlström, door knocking will also be initiated. During the Easter weekend, the police will also carry out a security operation in the area and be available for people who have questions or tips.

The shooting is the sixth in Sweden in less than two weeks. Including Thursday's murder, five men or boys have been killed in the shootings.
