A man has been hit in the face by a firework in Solna, outside Stockholm, police say. The young man is seriously injured and has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

Many people were at the scene where the incident occurred, according to police spokesperson Ola Österling.

"They probably aimed fireworks at each other," said Österling.

A criminal investigation into causing bodily harm has been initiated.

In Malmö, at least two people were injured by fireworks and taken to hospital by ambulance, one of them a 10-year-old boy, reports P4 Malmöhus.

A man was also injured in Hörby on New Year's Eve. According to police, the man, who is in his 30s, was "working with fireworks in his kitchen."

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his fingers and hands, according to Region Skåne.

During a check in Malmö, the police also seized a large quantity of fireworks from two minors linked to a store, which was prevented from selling them. A report of a crime relating to flammable and explosive goods has been drawn up.
