The man was reportedly chased on foot for a short time before being shot in the upper body. The shooting occurred in Austin, Texas, on Sunday afternoon local time. The man who was shot is not believed to have life-threatening injuries, but it is unclear whether he is still being treated for his injuries. According to the AP, he is in immigration police custody.
After the incident, around a hundred demonstrators gathered at the scene to protest against ICE.
The highly controversial immigration police agency ICE has intensified its operations against migrants over the summer. In August, almost 51,000 undocumented migrants were arrested, according to the US Department of Homeland Security.
At the same time, several high-profile deaths have occurred in connection with immigration police interventions in the past year. In July alone, two men were shot dead by ICE agents in separate incidents.
Several previous shootings have led to widespread and repeated demonstrations in the United States against ICE and its work.
