The shooting occurred in Austin, Texas, on Sunday afternoon local time. Shortly after the incident, protesters gathered at the scene to demonstrate against immigration police.
The shot man is not believed to have life-threatening injuries.
The highly controversial immigration police agency ICE has intensified its operations against migrants over the summer. In August, almost 51,000 undocumented migrants were arrested, according to the US Department of Homeland Security.
At the same time, several high-profile deaths have occurred in connection with immigration police interventions in the past year. In July alone, two men were shot dead by ICE agents in separate incidents.
Several previous shootings have led to widespread and repeated demonstrations in the United States against ICE and its work.
